From the field: A journey of hope
On our annual trip, we didn’t just go to audit books. We went to hug friends,
taste success (those Kolkata pastries are incredible!), and see exactly where your generosity lives.
Kolkata: Where small businesses break chains
In the heart of Kolkata—and even within the Sonagachi red-light district—we visited the small businesses giving survivors a second chance. From hand-woven blankets to artisan jewelry and baked goods, these girls and women are reclaiming their dignity. TTEOTE has pledged $60,000 over the next five years to support outreach centers, aftercare homes, and training programs in the city.
Kathmandu: Funding degrees and dreams
In Nepal, we met women studying for GEDs and completing college degrees. We caught up with our longtime partner running a thriving, female-owned event planning firm. Education and secure jobs are the ultimate preventative measures against trafficking. TTEOTE covers tuition/class costs, business setup fees, and provides other means of support to promote education and enterprise.
Ramati: Standing in the way of trafficking
We visited a school founded by a survivor and author of Standing in the Way. She was trafficked at 12; today, she ensures the children in her village never share her past. We are currently funding teacher salaries and classroom infrastructure to keep these doors open.
